AI Newsletter

 Prompt: Draft a doc in the format of a social post about a newsletter for a school library that contains a section for upcoming events, what is in the collection, contact information, and a suggestion place for a QR code. Have an introduction that includes a get to know the librarian

For this assignment I decided to use Canva AI, I used this application because I am familiar with the tools in Canva but I have never used the AI feature. In the first prompt I wrote in Canva Ai I found it useful but I forgot to mention that I wanted my newsletter to be specific for elementary schools. In the first attempt the result the AI gave me was very clean and straight to the point. I can tell this attempt was geared more to like a public library or high school newsletter because of the examples of a research workshop being one of the events a user can go to. Once I fixed the prompt by specifying the audience I was surprised how the AI encompassed exactly what I wanted. Especially it providing examples of events that could come up within the library such as a book club, reading challenge, and an author visit. The AI was very quick to provide at least 3 different results. I would say it took less than a minute to come up with a result. When using AI tools I think something important to consider is the specifics, if you are looking for it to create a more specific outcome then the user would have to provide the AI with a lot of detail in order to create the wanted outcome. As for thinking about how this connects to the LinkedIn lessons I can see this tool being useful during the ideation and creation phase. It can be beneficial to the ideation phase because it allows the user to write down their thoughts and what they would want on the newsletter. When thinking about the creation phase it does cut down a lot of time for the user to create original content. It will allow the user to create the content in a pinch to be able to publish and promote the library. However the only pitfall I can see from this is not being able to be really creative and create the content to tailor the audience. With the AI creating the templates it sometimes will come up with a lot of fluff to fill up the newsletter which might take more time to go back and fix, change, or remove the little things within the newsletter. Overall AI can probably be used as a tool for the librarian to create content in a pinch.
